Capital services and personnel are being hacked back by assembly as to attain a 2.7 per cent tax boost for Salmon Arm inhabitants.
In front of a tax upsurge in the new year of almost five per cent, Salmon Arm ruling body handed the 2010 municipality plan back to staff to locate extra areas to cut. The resultant plan, talked about last Wednesday at a special assembly assembly, includes a conscription cut of $151,590.
Town administrator Carl Bannister translates this into a decrease in city personnel.
Besides a cutback in staffing, town residents may expect to see a decrease in road services, as assembly arranged to remove the following from the plan: $50,000 from the dust abatement program, reducing applications from two to one; and $43,700 or one-third of the budget for asphalt repair. Additionally, council slashed $6,000 for paving fire hall number one, as well as $3,000 for the city’s Japanese exchange program. Additional cuts suggested by employees included $32,000 for the spring wood-chipping program, Employees also suggested closing the SASCU Amusement Centre swimming pool on Sundays in May and June, when the facility is least used, for a saving of $3,000.
